The International Conference on Physics Education “GIREP – MPTL 2026” concluded its proceedings with great success and strong international participation. The Conference took place from July 6 to 10, 2026, at the University of Crete’s Gallos Campus in Rethymno and was organized by the Laboratory of Science Education (LSE) of the Department of Primary Education at the University of Crete, in close collaboration with the International Research Group on Physics Teaching (GIREP) and Multimedia Physics Teaching and Learning (MPTL).

Centered around the theme “Bridging Physics Education and Society in the Digital Era,” the conference served as a dynamic forum for exchanging ideas and perspectives on contemporary challenges in physics education.

More than 350 participants from 41 countries attended the conference, including university faculty members, researchers, and educators. The program featured parallel sessions, symposia, hands-on workshops, and scientific poster presentations, where internationally recognized scholars shared innovative research findings and developments.

A particularly successful component of the event was the GIREP Doctoral School, which took place prior to the conference from July 3 to 5, 2026, offering doctoral candidates the opportunity to engage in specialized training and exchange experiences with leading researchers in the field.

During the closing ceremony, the Chair of the Local Organizing Committee, Professor of Science Education Mr. Stavrou, emphasized that the success of the conference confirms the University of Crete’s position as a strong hub attracting the international scientific community. He also expressed his gratitude to the University, the LSE research team, student volunteers, and local organizations across Crete for their valuable support in making the event possible.
