The center
Establishment and Mission
The University of Crete’s Psychological and Counseling Support Center was founded by the University Senate decision (No. 20801/1-10-24, Government Gazette 5688/B/14.10.2024). The Center is based in Rethymno and Heraklion. It is founded on a campus community approach in service provision and designed to support the entire university community, with a particular focus on undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students, while also extending its services to faculty and administrative staff.
The Psychological and Counseling Support Center is committed to the mental health and wellbeing of all members of the university community by:
• Providing individual and group psychological and counseling support to members who face personal challenges; helping them develop skills for managing and resolving difficulties.
• Designing and implementing programs that provide responsive and effective support, education, and mental health care for students, faculty and administrative staff.
• The University of Crete has offered free counseling and psychological support to students through the Student Counseling Center since 2003. The Student Counseling Center operated at both the Gallos Campus in Rethymno and the Voutes Campus in Heraklion. Established by a Senate decision (166th/24-05-02), the Student Counseling Center ran from September 2003 to October 2024, having developed initiatives to enhance students’ psychosocial well-being.

Supervision and Operational Responsibility
The Center operates under the supervision of the Vice-Rector for Administrative Affairs and Student Welfare.

Staff
The Psychological and Counseling Support Center is staffed by a team of psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers.

Ethics and Data Protection
The staff adheres to the professional codes of ethics governing mental health professions ensuring respect .
