We are thrilled to announce the kick-off of the Horizon EU Twinning project TWIN4EarLiStAge (Twinning For Excellence In Research, Training and Innovation In Early-in-Life Stress and Ageing) coordinated by the University of Crete!
Coordinated by the University of Crete, the 3-year EU Twinning project TWIN4EarLiStAge aims to to bridge the gap between the research communities and establish the first excellence hub in research, training and innovation in the Biology of Ageing in Greece by partnering with two world-leading research institutions: the European Research Institute for Biology of Ageing (ERIBA)-University of Groningen and the Leibniz Institute on Aging- Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI). The three partners of the TWIN4EarLiStAge project possess a unique combination of exceptional achievements in:
(1) Research (strong publication record, funding acquisition, extensive networks of collaborators in academia and industry, cutting-edge technologies and supporting facilities)
(2) Training and career development for Early-Career Researchers (large selection of training and coaching programmes, alumni with competitive edge in the international professional arena)
(3) Innovation, technology transfer and commercial exploitation (funding, education and mentorship in the translation of basic science and clinical observations into benefits for patient and society, patenting, establishment of spin-off companies)
Specifically, the research partnership aims to identify the critical time window and specific mechanisms which are triggered to contribute to lifespan extension and apply this knowledge to prolong life and protect against age-related pathologies. TWIN4EarLiStAge will also enable the University of Crete to establish comprehensive training for its young scientists, strengthen the research management and organizational skills of its staff and the capacity to commercially exploit research outputs and convert them to tangible outcomes for the society.
