28th Annual Meeting of the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness (ASSC 2025)

The 28th Annual Meeting of the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness (ASSC) will take place at the Cultural and Conference Center of Heraklion, Crete, from July 6 to July 9, 2025.

The ASSC aims to connect and empower members of the academic and scientific community—spanning cognitive science, medicine, neuroscience, and philosophy—with the shared goal of advancing our understanding of the nature and mechanisms of consciousness.

Following previous meetings in Tokyo (2024), New York (2023), and Amsterdam (2022), the 28th edition will take place in Heraklion, Crete, welcoming over 700 participants from around the globe. The conference is organized by three scholars from the University of Cambridge (Dr. Emmanuel Stamatakis, School of Clinical Medicine, Department of Clinical Neurosciences, PACE, Queens’ College), the University of Liège (Prof. Athena Demertzi, CRC Human Imaging, GIGA Institute), and the University of Crete, which serves as the local host (Prof. Eleni Vasilaki, Division of Psychology, Department of Primary Education). This collaboration among the three institutions ensures the conference’s scientific rigor, interdisciplinary perspective, and organizational excellence.

The conference will address fundamental questions and current research on consciousness, including:

  • The neural correlates of consciousness
  • The nature of subjective experience
  • How findings from consciousness research inform our understanding of the mind-brain-body relationship
