One year after the
unexpected loss of Dr. Andreas Hilboll, the very first victim of Covid-19 in
Crete,  the Laboratory for Modeling and
Observation of the Earth System (LAMOS) of the University of Bremen (Germany)
and the Environmental Chemistry Processes Laboratory (ECPL) of the University
of Crete (Greece) offer four (4) Andreas Hilboll travel scholarships to honor his
memory and strengthen the collaboration between the two laboratories and Universities.

Andreas was a talented
young scientist, motivated to achieve a better understanding of air pollution
and climate change and educate the next generation of students. He was an
excellent and dedicated researcher, a highly intelligent individual, an inspiring
teacher, and a passionate advisor. Most importantly, Andreas was an extremely
kind and generous person who cared for others and was always available to
discuss problems and find solutions. Dr. Andreas Hilboll was a well-respected
and much-liked member of the international atmospheric chemistry community.

Scholarship Description

Financial aid for up
to one-month travel visits that will take place between 1.9.2021 – 1.9.2025.
Two (2) of the travel awards will support Master or PhD student’s visits from
the University of Bremen to ECPL at the University of Crete and the other two
(2) will support Master or PhD students from the University of Crete to visit
LAMOS at the University of Bremen. The four travel awards will be distributed
over the mentioned four years period so that one travel award will be allocated
per year. A short report on the research stay has to be submitted within four
weeks after the end of the trip.

Travel fund amount

The travel award covers
a round trip flight ticket and additional maximum costs of 750 EUR for
accommodation and meal allowance for the stay to Bremen/Heraklion for a period
of up to one month.

Who can apply

Master or PhD students
registered at the University of Bremen or the University of Crete working on a
relevant scientific topic to air pollution, remote sensing, or chemistry-climate
(forward/inverse) modeling. Applications can be submitted every year until May
30. They have to include a one-page application letter explaining the
scientific scope of the visit and a short cv of the candidate.
