The exhibition Art as a Weapon: Prints from the Period 1941–1945 presents engravings of resistance-themed content created during the years of the Occupation, within the context of the Greek National Resistance (1941–1944), as well as works inspired by its events that continued to influence artistic production during 1945. The exhibition aims to highlight these prints not only as a means of artistic expression but also as a sociopolitical phenomenon — as vivid testimonies of the experiences of the era and of the ways in which these experiences were imprinted in collective memory.
The exhibition is organized within the framework of the Graduate Program in Art History of the Department of History and Archaeology, University of Crete, and is hosted at the University of Crete Library, Rethymno, Gallos Campus.
