The UoC Department of Materials Science and Engineering extends its warmest congratulations to Konstantinos Stoumpos, Associate Professor in the Department, for being included—for the 7th consecutive year(!)—among the Greek researchers with the most significant and far-reaching impact in their field worldwide over the past decade.

This ranking comes from the highly reputable international organization Clarivate, which recently published the list of researchers with the highest number of citations globally for 2025. According to Clarivate, “Through rigorous selection criteria and thorough analysis, we recognize researchers whose outstanding and wide-ranging contributions are shaping the future of science, technology, and academia worldwide.” Notably, this year’s list includes only nine scientists from Greek institutions, with Dr. Stoumpos being one of them—and the only one from the University of Crete.

Dr. Stoumpos’s research focuses on the field of Materials Chemistry, emphasizing the synthesis of innovative materials with applications in energy and the environment. One such category of materials in which he is deeply engaged is perovskites—materials that promise, among other things, cutting-edge, high-efficiency photovoltaic systems and exceptionally bright, energy-efficient light-emitting devices.
