Award of a Fulbright scholarship to the PhD candidate of the Department of Psychology, Mr. Andreas Vavvos
Andreas Vavvos, was one of the five beneficiaries of the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) and Fullbright Greece during the academic year 2023-2024. As a PhD candidate in the Department of Psychology at the School of Social Sciences of the University of Crete and the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of Saint Andrews (Scotland) he spent six months at Rice University, Houston, Texas, specifically at the Center for Environmental Studies, one of the best interdisciplinary research centers in the world on environmental issues.
His primary area of study is the anthropology of energy, with a focus on energy transitions. Under this framework, he carries out fieldwork in anthropology in Greece, with the main goal being a casual explanation of the phenomena of resistance to energy transition in Crete and Western Macedonia. Mr. Vavvos’ mentor during his time at Rice University was Professor Cymene Howe.
