The final phase of evaluation of the “3 Minute Thesis”
competition was held on Tuesday 11 July 2023, at the Heraklion Cultural and
Conference Centre.  The University of
Crete organizes for the third time this unique competition.

10 PhD students from various Departments of UoC, were the finalist with
the highest scores out of 23 candidates. They had only three minutes and one
slide to explain their research, in a language
appropriate to a non-specialist audience.

The evaluation committee and the audience
assessed the presentations of the candidates and selected the winners of the 3
prizes: 1st prize, 2nd prize and audience prize. The first prize was awarded to
mr.Nikolaos Arapitsas, PhD students of Dept.of Biology for his thesis :
“Investigation of the
transcriptional and epigenetic footprint of the interaction between endophytic
microbes and the host plant”. The second prize won by mr.Xaris Livas,
, PhD students of Dept.of Chemistry who presented his PhD thesis on: “Use
and development of Machine Learning methods for the study of molecule storage
in nanomaterials”. The audience has selected mr.Nikolaos Arapitsas to
receive the audience prize.
