Abstract: The concept of ecosystem appeared in biology to describe the evolutionary relationships of individual living organisms (biotic factors) with their environment (abiotic factors: milieu). James Moore (Harvard Business Review) introduced the term in 1993 as a metaphor in the field of management to explain the complex relationships of co-opetition in a system of actors.
In 2010, Daniel Isenberg (Babson College) described an entrepreneurial ecosystem as a complex combination of individual elements to provide prescriptions for governments to support entrepreneurs. While the concept of an ecosystem is increasingly attracting the attention of researchers, practitioners, and governments, there is still partial (and even limited) knowledge about how building a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem fits different contexts, countries, populations, or industries.
The aim of this presentation is to shed light on this little or poorly understood concept in order to advance the discussion on territorial and international ecosystem dynamics based on scientific work.
