The Municipality of Heraklion welcomed the
new Erasmus students of the University of Crete with a
captivating city tour, featuring the most important monuments
of the old city of Heraklion.

The city tour focused on August 25^th
Street, where the most important monuments of the city are
located. These monuments bear a centuries-long history of
fierce battles with conquerors, natural disasters, and the
cultural imprint of its different settlers (Arabs, Venetians,
Ottomans). Today Heraklion is the commercial center of the
island of Crete and home to the most famous archaeological
attraction of Crete: the Palace of Knossos.

We would like to thank the Municipality of
Heraklion and the tour guide, Mr. Manos Koukakis, for offering
their excellent welcome services to the Erasmus students of
UoC.
