The independent Risk Management Office (RMO) of the University of Crete reports to the Rector of the University, since its work constitutes a structural element of the University’s Internal Audit System, which is overseen by the Rector himself. It belongs to the second line of roles of the “Three Line Model”, according to which the University’s Internal Audit System is structured.
The mission of the RMO is determined by the achievement of the following operational objectives:
- integration of Risk Management into all functions of the University of Crete, through the development of a Risk Management Framework which is in accordance to the guidelines of the National Transparency Authority, International Standards and best practices in Risk Management,
- creation and maintenance of the University’s Risk Registry, that will picture the overall risks to which the University is exposed at any given time,
- support and guidance of all structural units of the University for the identification, assessment, treatment and monitoring of their risks, in order to ensure a unified and effective management,
- development of a Risk Management culture at all levels of the University, through educational programs and communication actions,
- strengthening the Internal Audit System of the University of Crete by developing one of its structural elements and the substantial contribution to the work of the University’s Internal Audit Unit which can be carried out on an identified risks basis,
- strengthening the prevention of corruption through the timely identification and monitoring of corruption risks and the evaluation of the controls applied to address them, and
- improvement of the strategic plan of the University of Crete.
Its direct actions include:
- monitoring and ensuring the complete mapping of processes and operations with financial consequences at the University of Crete, the identification of risks in each process as well as the relevant controls (if they have been set), and
- the determination of the criteria to calculate the impact of risks (risk severity assessment) for the University of Crete.
The establishment of the Office was published in the Government Gazette 3630/issue B’/25.06.2024.
