International Undergraduate Program in Medicine

The International Undergraduate Program, which is one of the 3 international medical programs currently functioning in Greece, has concluded its first year of operation with remarkable success. On the initiative of Professor G. Kochiadakis, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, a presentation of the program’s first year’s accomplishments was made on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, within the framework of the Medical School’s and the University of Crete’s extroversion and internationalization initiatives.

The Vice Rector, Mr. Kossiori, the Dean of School of Science and Engineering, Mr. E. Stratakis, the elected Vice Rector, Professor M. Vamvakaki, and several professors from the Medical School and other academic departments of the Foundation in Heraklion were present. Professor C. Tsatsanis, the Coordinator of the International Program, gave a detailed report on the academic and extracurricular activities of the year, shared his impressions, and offered suggestions for improving the work that was done. Among other things, he gave information showing how the Programme has helped the School of Medicine’s research and teaching facilities be upgraded and maintained. Subsequently, lecturers shared their positive teaching experiences.

According to program data, there are thirty-one students who have finished their first year of study. One noteworthy example of the program’s influence is the nearly threefold increase in applications for the second year compared to the year before. The fact that applications were received from 36 different nations further illustrates the wide popularity. The program will have students from 18 different countries on 4 continents starting in the upcoming academic year, which will increase the University of Crete’s extroversion and multiculturalism.

After congratulating those who had contributed to the endeavor, Professor G. Kochiadakis, the Dean of the Department of Medicine, spoke about the opportunities the Foreign Language Department presents for the School of Medicine in terms of enhancing its standing as a provider of culture and education on the global academic scene.
