The Rectorate of the University of Crete congratulates Elena
Anagnostopoulou, Professor of Linguistics at the Department of Philology,
University of Crete and member of IMS-FORTH, for the award of the European
Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant 2022

The ERC Advanced Grant funding is amongst the most prestigious and
competitive EU funding schemes providing researchers with the opportunity to
pursue ambitious, curiosity-driven projects that could lead to major scientific
breakthroughs.

Elena’s Anagnostopoulou program, «Phylogenies probing Grammar. Exploring
morphosyntax at different scales of language change (PhylProGramm)» aims to be
an innovative contribution to the evaluation of morphological and syntactic
features in terms of the historical information they can provide, using
quantitative computational phylogenetic methods inspired by evolutionary
biology combined with qualitative and in-depth linguistic (theoretical, historical,
and typological) research.
