The Center of Greek and Chinese Civilizations (KELKIP) moves its summer school program to Crete, hosting two groups of fifty-three students from Chinese institutions, one year after its “maiden” educational activity at the European Cultural Centre of Delphi (https://studyingreece.edu.gr/the-seeds-of-virtue-in-ancient-greece-and-china/).
Athens, Rethymno, Anogia, Heraklion, and Chania are hosting the program from July 10 to July 31. The program’s goal is to introduce participating students to Crete’s rich history and modern culture, as well as the philosophical tradition that connects the island’s iconic archaeological sites to the Platonic utopia of the Laws.
The University of Crete’s School of Philosophy is organizing the summer school in association with the Institute for Mediterranean Studies/ FORTH. The School of Social Sciences and Education’s human resources, the Archaeological Museums of Heraklion and Rethymnon, and the Historical Museum of Crete also provide support.
As part of this initiative, Shaanxi Normal University students will present a dramatic production of “The Great Confucianist Zhang Zai” at the Anogia Open Theatre on Wednesday, July 24, at 21.00. Admission is free.
