The best PhD thesis Prize “Emilios Harlaftis” of Hellenic Astronomical
Society was awarded to Raphael Skalidis.

Raphael Skalidis, graduated
from the Department of Physics of University of Crete and has also completed
his PhD thesis at UoC and at the Institute of Astrophysics of FORTH in
September 2022. His dissertation was entitled: “Estimating of the magnetic field strength in the
interstellar medium” and thesis
advisor was Kostas Tassis, Associate Professor of the Department of Physics,
UoC.

Since November 2022, Raphael Skalidis is Postdoctoral
Researcher at the Department of Astronomy of California Institute of Technology
– Caltech (USA).

The award, honours the memory of
astrophysicist Emilios Harlaftis, who passed away in 2005 at the age of 39,
will be presented during the next conference of the Hellenic Astronomical
Society on 25 June 2023.
