The University of Crete’s Department of Materials Science and Technology successfully held an honorary doctorate ceremony for the globally recognized Professor Krzysztof Matyjaszewski of Carnegie Mellon University, USA. The event took place on September 11, 2023, at the “Nikos Petridis” Amphitheater, attended by university officials, local authorities, faculty, staff, and students. The ceremony featured a musical performance by Sylvia Strouthou and Orestis Kousathanas.

Professor Matyjaszewski, a pioneer in macromolecular chemistry, has made significant contributions to the field, including the discovery of copper-mediated atom transfer radical polymerization. He has published extensively, holds numerous patents, and has received many international awards and honors. His work has had a profound impact on both the scientific community and society at large.
