A new chapter of innovation is opening at the University of Crete with the allocation of €300,000 from the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports for the establishment of the University’s first Science Hub (Incubator). Minister Sofia Zacharaki responded to a longstanding request by the Rectorate. In her public remarks, she conveyed her appreciation for the achievements and potential of the University of Crete.
The new Incubator, located in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics in Voutes Campus (Heraklion), is set to become a meeting point for science, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The initiative plays a pivotal role in shaping a regional Innovation Node for Crete, fostering partnerships with chambers of commerce, businesses, the Region of Crete, local institutions, and other academic and research bodies.
Central to the project is “MITIS,” the University’s Innovation and Knowledge Transfer Unit, which leads its design and implementation.
Through the development of the Science Hub, the University of Crete is reinforcing its role as a driving force of knowledge and innovation in the region, investing in a future where science engages with society and creates new pathways for development in Crete and across Greece.
