The first Greeks in AI Symposium was held in Athens on July 19–20, 2025, bringing together more than 600 participants from Greece and abroad. The event featured over 180 papers from leading international AI conferences, 10 keynote lectures, and 2 panel discussions, highlighting cutting-edge research and fostering collaboration across the global Greek AI community.
Through outstanding keynote lectures by internationally renowned researchers such as A. Dimakis (University of California, Berkeley), E. Kotsovinos (Google), K. Fragiadaki (CMU), M. Kellis (MIT), P. Maragos (NTUA), Maarten de Rijke (University of Amsterdam), and M. Chli (University of Cyprus and ETH Zurich), as well as shorter technical presentations of papers from top conferences (such as NeurIPS, CVPR, ICLR) and engaging discussions, the Greeks in AI Symposium showcased the vibrant community of Greeks working in the broader field of Artificial Intelligence across universities, research centers, and companies.
The symposium was co-organized with the “Archimedes” Research Unit of the Athena Research Center and received sponsorships from 23 organizations, including Google, Kaizen Gaming, Omilia, EY, HERON Robotics Excellence, Accenture, FORTH, Epikast, Eurobank, Starttech Ventures, Samsung Electronics, Attica Bank, Grant Thornton (GR), Oumi, Ademú, DeepLab, Infoquest, Metavallon VC, Dialectika Capacitación, helvia.ai, and Uni Systems, along with a donation from the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation. Twelve institutions, among them the University of Crete, together with a team of volunteers, enthusiastically supported the symposium’s activities.
Founded in February 2025 by E. Gavves (University of Amsterdam), M. Papadopouli (University of Crete), K. Daniilidis (University of Pennsylvania), E. Kanoulas (University of Amsterdam), I. Kokkinos (University College London), and S. Tsaftaris (University of Edinburgh), Greeks in AI is a grassroots initiative with four key goals: to promote Greek AI research, strengthen networks among researchers, provide mentoring opportunities for young scientists, and foster collaboration with startups and companies active in the field.
