University of Crete Congratulates Giorgos Koumendakis on His Reappointment at the Greek National Opera
The Rectorate of the University of Crete extends its warmest congratulations to composer Giorgos Koumendakis, member of the University’s Governing Council, on the renewal of his term as Artistic Director of the Greek National Opera (GNO) for a fourth consecutive three-year term, following a decision by the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, and the Deputy Minister of Culture, Iasonas Fotilas.
Mr. Koumendakis has now completed nine years in this position and is the first Artistic Director in the 85-year history of the Greek National Opera to be entrusted with a fourth consecutive term—an exceptional honor that reflects the broad recognition of his work and contribution.
The University of Crete is particularly honored by Mr. Koumendakis’s participation on its Governing Council and acknowledges his significant and multifaceted contribution to Greek and international culture, as well as his decisive role in the artistic advancement and international outreach of the Greek National Opera.
