Visit of the Tsinghua University Delegation to the University of Crete
The University of Crete hosted a delegation from Weiyang College of Tsinghua University on Monday, August 4, 2025, within the framework of the “Qingjin Xitu” 2025 Summer Overseas Practice Program. The visiting group, comprising undergraduate students and academic staff, engaged in a full day of structured academic exchange and dialogue.
The visit was organized under the auspices of Professor Georgios M. Kontakis, Rector of the University of Crete, and was supported by Professor Maria Vamvakaki, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Lifelong Learning, and Research Policy, and Professor Eleni Tamiolaki, Vice Rector for International Relations, Outreach, and Development, who participated in the proceedings and addressed the delegation.

- Professor Maria Vamvakaki – Introduction to the University of Crete
- Professor Antonios Savvidis – Dean of the School of Sciences and Engineering
- Professor Georgios Vasilikogiannakis – Chair of the Department of Chemistry
- Professor Dimitrios Papazoglou – Chair of the Department of Materials Science and Technology
- Professor Andreas Zezas – Chair of the Department of Physics
- Professor Giannis Tzitzikas – Deputy Chair of the Department of Computer Science
- Professor Nikolaos Papadakis – Director of the Center for Political Research and Documentation (KEPET), Department of Political Science
- Emerita Professor Aikaterini Kopaka – Presentation on the cultural and historical heritage of Crete
The 15-member delegation, including 13 undergraduate students, participated in thematic discussions on innovation, cultural heritage, the digital economy, and green energy. The visit concluded with a guided tour of the University’s facilities at Voutes campus in Heraklion, offering participants direct insight into the institution’s academic and research environment.
This visit marked an important step in strengthening academic ties between China and Greece and fostering meaningful youth-led dialogue in the context of global challenges and mutual learning.
