The University of Crete operates a comprehensive Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS), which was accredited on 10 September 2019 for its compliance with the quality standards of the Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency (HQA) and the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG), receiving the highest rating of “Fully Compliant”.

Τhe Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS) of University of Crete,  was re-accredited by the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE, formerly HQA) in 2026, receiving the highest rating of “Fully Compliant” from 09.02.2026 to 08.02.2031.

The Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS) encompasses all functions and activities of the University, in accordance with international best practices, particularly those of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), as well as the principles and guidelines of the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE). Its purpose is to ensure and continuously enhance the quality of the University’s educational and research activities, as well as its support services.

The system comprises processes and procedures designed to provide students with high-quality higher education while fostering a transparent, creative, and supportive environment for research and work for the University’s staff. This commitment stems from the University’s strategy and objectives to maintain a strong and leading presence in the contemporary international educational, research, and social landscape, as well as from its adherence to the principles of transparency and accountable governance. It is supported by the close and systematic collaboration between the University’s Rectorate and the Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) and is further strengthened by the active contribution of the University’s governing bodies, administration, faculty members, researchers, students, alumni, and representatives of the local community.

The implementation and management of the Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS) are the responsibility of the University of Crete’s Quality Assurance Unit (QAU).
