The University of Crete has secured funding through the Horizon Europe – MSCA & Citizens 2025 programme for the Science for Growth – Empowering Minds (STEPS) project, a major European initiative dedicated to strengthening the connection between science and society through outreach activities, the dissemination of research, and the active engagement of students, educators, and citizens.
As part of the project, the University of Crete, in collaboration with the Technical University of Crete and the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR), will organize the flagship European Researchers’ Night events, as well as outreach visits to schools. These activities will feature interactive workshops, scientific demonstrations, presentations, citizen science initiatives, and public engagement events designed to foster scientific literacy and strengthen collaboration between the research community and society.
In addition, through its Centre for Training and Lifelong Learning (KEDIVIM), the University of Crete offers the free, certified, asynchronous training programme “A Growth Mindset in Research and Education: From Theory to Practice.”
The programme is designed for researchers, academics, and educators, providing up-to-date knowledge and practical tools in science communication, public engagement, research dissemination, and the design of educational activities that strengthen the link between research, education, and society.
Participation in the training programme is a prerequisite for those wishing to take part in the Researchers’ Night activities and school outreach visits. The programme equips participants with the knowledge and skills needed to communicate science effectively to a wide range of audiences.
We warmly invite members of the academic community to take advantage of this unique professional development opportunity. By joining the programme, participants will enhance their communication and engagement skills while contributing to a vibrant community that promotes scientific excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
