CONFERENCE | “Health, Diseases, Epidemics – Perceptions and Practices in the Late Ottoman Period” | November 7–9, 2025

The Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Crete, in collaboration with the Laboratory for the History of Medicine and Medical Ethics of the UoC Medical School, is organizing a conference on “Health, Diseases, Epidemics: Perceptions and Practices in the Late Ottoman Period”, to be held from November 7 to 9, 2025, in Heraklion and Rethymno.

The pre-conference event will take place on Friday, November 7, at the Museum of Medicine and the Postgraduate Studies Amphitheater of the UoC Medical School in Heraklion (Voutes Campus). The main conference sessions will be held on Saturday, November 8, and Sunday, November 9, at the Student Cultural Center “XENIA” in Rethymno.

The conference is part of the research project “Modernizations and Intercommunality in the Late Ottoman Empire: The Case of Sarantis Archigenes / Serandi Arşizen (1809–1873) at the Imperial Medical School in Istanbul)”, funded by the Special Account for Research Funds (ELKE) of the University of Crete.

Participation in the conference is free of charge.
