The School of Medicine of the University of Crete announces the award of the “Emmanouil Nikoloudakis” Donation Prize for the 2024–2025 academic year to Assistant Professor of Hematology Dr. Nikolaos Sousos, in recognition of his contributions to research on the mechanisms linking clonal hematopoiesis with cardiovascular disease. This research project has also been honored independently by the European Hematology Association, underscoring its international impact.
The Prize, funded through the “Emmanouil Nikoloudakis” Donation, is awarded annually to early-career faculty members of the School of Medicine who also provide clinical and/or laboratory services at the University Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNI). Its purpose is to support and highlight their research activities and to advance Public Health through scientific inquiry.
Dr. Sousos is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Hematology at the University of Crete School of Medicine and PAGNI, and a clinician–scientist with a specialized research focus on myeloproliferative neoplasms and clonal hematopoiesis.
The “Emmanouil Nikoloudakis” Prize represents an important initiative that strengthens the research endeavors of early-career faculty and fosters the University of Crete’s engagement with the local community. The School of Medicine expresses its sincere gratitude to the late donor for his tangible support of its mission and his contribution to advancing the institution’s research and clinical work.
