University of Crete Welcomes International Participants to the 1st Summer School in Regenerative Medicine

The 1st Summer School in Regenerative Medicine was successfully launched on Wednesday, July 1, at the Medical School of the University of Crete, marking the beginning of an intensive educational program dedicated to one of the most dynamic and rapidly evolving fields of modern biomedical science.

The University of Crete was pleased to welcome 25 participants from six countries to Heraklion for a week of advanced training and scientific exchange focused on stem cell technologies and their applications in regenerative medicine.

Jointly organized by the Hellenic Society of Gene Therapy and Regenerative Medicine and the University of Crete, the Summer School brings together early-career researchers, clinicians, and students through a comprehensive program that combines expert lectures, live demonstrations, and hands-on laboratory training.

The opening day introduced participants to the fundamental principles of stem cell biology through a series of lectures, followed by hands-on laboratory training in the specialized facilities of the Medical School of the University of Crete and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

The Summer School provides a unique international learning environment, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and encouraging scientific exchange between participants and leading experts in regenerative medicine.

By hosting the inaugural Summer School in Regenerative Medicine, the University of Crete further strengthens its commitment to internationalization, scientific excellence, and high-quality lifelong learning opportunities, while reinforcing its position as a leading center for biomedical education and research in the Mediterranean.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Organizing Committee and the Scientific Committee of the Summer School for their dedication and hard work, and special thanks to the sponsors of the Hellenic Society of Gene Therapy and Regenerative Medicine for their valuable support, which made it possible to offer the Summer School free of tuition fees and to award eight Travel Grants to outstanding participants.
