Erasmus BIP Program: Labour and Social Justice – Transformations, Trends and Challenges for Europe and the World

Between 20–24 April 2026, the blended intensive educational program (Blended Intensive Program) titled “Labour and Social Justice: Transformations, Trends and Challenges for Europe and the World” was successfully completed. The program was organized by the University of Crete, specifically the Department of Political Science, in collaboration with three partner universities: Università degli Studi G. D’Annunzio – Pescara, Universidad de Oviedo, and Université Rouen Normandie.

The issue of changes in the labor market and the economy, combined with the challenges for Social Justice and social cohesion in Europe and internationally in an era of successive crises and major transformation, constituted the central focus of the program’s scientific dialogue.

During the 5-day educational program, students from the University of Crete as well as from partner institutions in France, Spain, and Italy had the opportunity to collaborate and explore a variety of theoretical and research questions within the broader theme of “labor and social justice.” More specifically, discussions addressed topics related to migration policies and social justice, EU social policies concerning labor, issues of social justice and climate change, as well as more theoretical concepts related to politics and social justice.

In parallel with the on-site academic program, participants had the chance to become acquainted with the Cretan history, culture and diet through their visits to the Museum of Eleutherna and the Development Center of Mountainous Mylopotamos and Malevizi, where they were informed about topics concerning biodiversity, local flora, and wildlife.

Emphasis was placed on the flavors, aromas, traditions, and the distinctive mountainous landscape of Crete through visits to well-known locations in the city and countryside, such as Raki Ba Raki and Poquito, as well as the Panorama tavern in Eleutherna and the mitato at the “Shepherd’s House” in the mountains of Krana.

The successful completion of the in-person component marks an important milestone for the program and highlights the significance of international cooperation in higher education and research.
