Significant International Distinction for the External Member of the University of Crete’s Administrative Council, Vasiliki Kalogera
Professor Vasiliki (Vicky) Kalogera (PI), along with co-PI Professor Angelos Katsaggelos, has secured a $20 million grant from the National Science Foundation and the Simons Foundation in the USA through a multi-institutional collaboration. This grant will fund the development of cutting-edge technology aimed at analyzing and interpreting astronomical data, as well as transforming physical simulations. The new institute will host 83 members from 25 organizations and is expected to drive groundbreaking advances in astronomy through artificial intelligence.
Ms. Kalogera, who holds the distinguished title of ‘Daniel I. Linzer’ Professor and serves as the Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics, has received numerous accolades for her pioneering contributions to the study of compact objects in binary systems.
The Rectorate of the University of Crete extends its heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Kalogera for this significant achievement and wishes her continued success as she opens new frontiers in astrophysics.
