Studying

Studying

The academic year begins on September 1 and ends on August 31 of the following year. The teaching work of each academic year is structured in two semesters. Each semester includes at least thirteen (13) full weeks of instruction. An extension of the duration of one semester is allowed only in exceptional cases, in order to complete the required minimum number of weeks of teaching, it cannot exceed two weeks and is done by decision of the Rector, following a proposal by the Faculty’s Dean’s Office.

The Study Program contains the titles of Compulsory, Elective Compulsory (Compulsorily Elected) and Free Elective (Freely Elected) Courses, their content, their weekly teaching hours, as well as the temporal sequence or interdependence of these courses. The courses are divided into eight (8) independent academic semesters, except for the Medicine department for which there are twelve (12), and are taught weekly.

Within the first two weeks of each semester, the teacher delivers to the students or posts on the student web the outline of the course, i.e. the content of the course, the individual sections per week of teaching, the basic and supplementary bibliography of the course as well as the way of assessing performance of students.

Registration renewal and course selection per semester

At the beginning of each semester, all students, regardless of year of study, must renew their registration each semester and at the same time declare the minimum number of required courses.

Students register online through the Student Web for the current semester and at the same time submit their course preference statement.

Duration of Studies

The maximum duration of study for undergraduate students is equal to the number of years provided for in the indicative study program, increased by 4 semesters (2 years).

Teaching Course Evaluation by the students

One of the most basic procedures of the quality assurance system is the evaluation of the University’s work by its students. In it, students can contribute with their active participation in the evaluation procedures of the courses.

At the University of Crete, the Quality Assurance Unit (MO.DI.P.) is the coordinating body of the quality assurance system of teaching and research work as well as its supporting structures.
